Pipe Founder Harry Hurst Bought a Los Angeles House
Harry Hurst is switching coasts, trading in a glam Florida mansion for an equally ritzy place in Los Angeles. After barely a year of ownership, the co-founder of $2 billion fintech startup Pipe Technologies has listed his designer-done residence in the village of Bal Harbour for $12.5 million. He subsequently doled out $5 million for all-new modern farmhouse-style digs in Tarzana, receiving a nearly million-dollar discount on the property.
The sale comes on the heels of Hurst's decision to step down as co-CEO of the Miami-based revenue trading platform late last year along with two of his fellow co-founders. Though he remains vice chairman, the company is currently searching for a "veteran and experienced operational CEO to drive the business forward to even greater heights," per a press release.
Newly built this year, and tucked away on over 1.5 acres of land, the two-toned wood-sided structure includes five bedrooms and seven baths in nearly 7,400 square feet of living space adorned throughout with blonde hardwood floors and high ceilings. A lengthy driveway passes through a porte-cochère before emptying out at a spacious motorcourt and four-car garage sporting an EV charger.
A soaring glass door pivots into the entry foyer, which flows to a fireside living room and formal dining room flanked by a glass wine display, and an expansive great room holds a family room spotlighted by a floor-to-ceiling stone fireplace, wet bar and Fleetwood pocketing doors opening to the backyard. An adjacent gourmet kitchen is outfitted with an eat-in island, Miele appliances, a La Cornue range and butler's pantry.
Elsewhere in the house is a movie theater, an office and en-suite bedroom that's been converted into a gym/yoga studio, plus a master retreat boasting a fireplace, private balcony, designer showroom closet, and spa-inspired bath equipped with dual vanities, a soaking tub and large steam shower. Outdoors, the backyard is carved into a hillside, and hosts a 32-foot pool with a spa and Baja shelf nestled alongside a cabana.
As for Hurst's Florida home (below), the contemporary property is sited on a quarter-acre parcel, and includes six bedrooms and seven baths in a little more than 5,600 square feet of living space crafted by Miami's Sire Design, complete with piano lacquer cabinetry, and high-end green onyx, polished Arabescato Rosso marble, black-stained white oak and Roman Clay finishes.
There are numerous amenities — a fully equipped gym, steam room, and resort-style terrace with a hot tub, pool and summer kitchen, just to name a few. The property also has a bespoke Mia Cucina kitchen with Miele appliances, and a primary suite flaunting dual walk-in closets, a luxe bath and commercial-grade sauna.
After purchasing the newly built house in September 2022 for just under $8 million, Hurst flipped it back onto the market for an impressive $13.5 million in January; it's since undergone two price reductions, winding up at the current $12.5 million ask.
