Gilroy police looking for Bay Area liquor store robbery suspects
Gilroy police are looking for two people allegedly involved in an attack and robbery at JV Liquors.
The Gilroy Police Department is looking for two suspects from a Monday liquor store attack and robbery.
A man and woman allegedly walked up to the counter at JV Liquors at 420 1st St. to purchase alcohol bottles just after 8 p.m., Gilroy police said. After the employee grabbed a bottle, the woman snagged the second bottle and tried to leave the store, police said.
Gilroy police said the woman and employ began to fight, and the woman reportedly punched the employee in the face, causing injury, while the man allegedly stole two alcohol bottles and fled. After the fight, the woman briefly left the store but returned, walking up to the counter and pushing over a display before leaving again, police said.
The man and woman were both seen walking south on Hanna Street, less than half a mile away from the store, police said.
The department is calling this a "strong-armed robbery," because there were no weapons used but a physical fight ensued, Sgt. Lamonte Toney, spokesperson for the department, told SFGATE.
Toney said there are no updates at this time regarding the suspects’ identity.
The department is asking anyone with information to contact Gilroy police at 408-846-0300 or the anonymous tip line at 408-846-0330.
