Enjoy an afternoon celebrating the anniversary of June 19, 1865, an annual holiday commemorating the end of slavery in the United States! The afternoon will be filled with delish soul food samplings and the sound of gospel singers while learning the history of the holiday from guest speakers. Sunday, Jun. 4, 1:30 p.m. The Jasper German Club and the Dubois County Museum have teamed up to welcome published author, Anneliese Krauter, to Jasper. Krauter will recount her life's story as a United States citizen and daughter of German Immigrants during the 1940's. Her tale begins in her youth during the joyful and innocent days that change overnight with the bombing of Pearl Harbor, to her father's suspicion of being a Nazi spy, her time in an internment camp in Texas, returning to Germany as German citizens to witness the end of the war, escaping Russian occupation of Germany and (finally) concluding with her return to the United States. She will speak and then will open it up for Questions and Answers. Jasper German Club and the Dubois County Museum are sponsoring free admission this day to the museum from 1-4 p.m.

How tick savvy are you? Learn all you want to know about ticks and maybe even more! The Friends of the Patoka River National Wildlife Refuge will host Southern Medical Entomologist Doug Ginder to share with you his knowledge on ticks and other insect vectors in our area. The program will be held on Wednesday June 7 at 6 p.m. CST at the Princeton Public Library. Mr. Ginder has been doing research for the past couple of years in the Refuge area and is investigating to determine if there is a range of extension of a new tick born disease. He will cover all the species of ticks in the area and diseases that they transmit. He will also talk about ways to avoid ticks. Time is "ticking" so don't miss this opportunity to learn all about ticks!

Ferdinand Heimatfest sponsored by MasterBrand Cabinets is accepting applications for Food Booths and Events for 2023 Ferdinand Heimatfest Jun. 16-17 at the Ferdinand Community Center. All food booths and events must be run by Dubois County Non-for-Profits. Registration forms can be found by visiting www.ferdinandheimatfest.com under the Vendors tab, or contacting Neil Weyer at 812-661-2711 or [email protected]. All groups will need to submit a list of the food they intend on serving, or the event they intend to host. No duplication will be permitted. All groups, menus, and events are subject to approval by the Heimatfest Committee.

Fill your summer with art! Jasper Community Arts will host a variety of visual arts workshops, beginning in June, at the Thyen-Clark Cultural Center, 100 3rd Avenue. Workshops will include watercolor, acrylic, drawing skills, clay and ceramics, t-shirt batiks, comic art, stamp-making, photography, and many more! All JCA workshops are taught by professional teaching artists. Offerings are available for all ages and skill levels! JCA will also offer Camp Create for children ages 8-12. The week-long camp will be hosted twice this summer, Jun. 19-23, and July 17-21. Cost of the camp is $125 per child per week.
